ISO currency code

Auch in: DE FR

Three-digit designation of currency units (such as USD, GBP, EUR), developed by the International Organization for Standardization as ISO standard 4217. Although these abbreviations (used mainly in foreign payment transactions) do not replace the officially established national abbreviations, they are used for the following purposes
(in the example: $, ₤, €) of the currencies. However, they are becoming more and more common in business transactions worldwide. – Cf. the relevant letter sequences in the Deutsche Bundesbank’s quarterly booklet “Devisenkursstatistik” (“Exchange Rate Statistics”), under the heading “ISO Currency Codes”.
