Intrinsic value

Auch in: DE FR

The supposed value of an object, regardless of its actual price at any given time and independent of its value to humans. – The estimate of the value of an object based on the personal views and expectations of an investor or analyst (an estimate of value that is determined according to the particular views and expectations of an individual investor or analyst). – In the case of coins of precious metal in circulation, the nature of the coin in terms of its content of gold or silver (how much the metal in the coin is worth), i.e. irrespective of the nominal denomination stamped on it. – For option transactions, the positive difference between the strike price of an option and the current price of the underlying asset (the positive difference between the price of the underlying asset and the option’s strike price; for a put option, it is the opposite. By definition, intrinsic value is never negative). – See cat money, Kurant coin, substance-over-form principle, value, intrinsic.
