Interchange fee (also referred to as multilateral interchange fee in German)
Interchange payments between service providers in the market for credit cards. The fee is paid to credit card companies that recruit merchants to accept credit cards (acquirers) by the issuers of credit cards (issuers). The crediting of the interchange fee is then usually calculated as a percentage of the sales made with the cards at the merchants. – In late 2007, the European Commission intervened against some practices in setting these fees. – See chip card, community card, money, electronic, money card, card alliance, credit card, customer card, network money business, plastic money.
