Industry concentration

Auch in: DE FR

The strong weight of a single industry within a geographically defined area. From the viewpoint of economics, sector concentration is undesirable and dangerous because the vulnerability to crises (even a moderate decline in demand causes an overall reduction in production and employment in the region) of the corresponding area is higher than average. – See Industry concentration. – Cf. Deutsche Bundesbank Monthly Report of March 2014, p. 67 (reasons for vulnerability to crises).
