Harzgeld also known as resin fee

In the past, a partly one-time, partly ongoing fee for the right to collect resin commercially in manorial or communal forests (right to tap trees for resin; Harzrecht). – The resinator scores the trunk of the tree and collects the resin that flows out – a mixture of about seventy percent rosin and thirty percent turpentine – in containers placed underneath. In the case of conifers (spruces, pines, larches), resination easily causes injuries to the tree, resulting in so-called resin pockets. Therefore, only reliable men were allowed to be resiners and were issued with a resin license authorizing them to resin.
