Unless explicitly defined otherwise – net sales – less expenses for inventories sold during the period (cost of sales, cost of goods sold) – less operating expenses. – In other words, the operating income less the operating expenses of a company (a bank). – See contribution margin, profit, operating, trading profit, return on sales.
