Dark pool (also referred to in German as “Dark Pool”; more rarely, off-exchange trading facility)

Trading platform for financial products outside the stock exchange. Until now, regulators have approved such trades mainly when large orders would have had an undesirable impact on the market. – See counterparty, central, market, fourth, market transparency, over-the-counter trading, waiver rule. – See BaFin Annual Report 2010, p. 70 f. (efforts to achieve transparency in dark pools), BaFin Annual Report 2011, p. 91 (IOSCO report; supervisory authorities to be able to intervene in dark pools if obstructions to the price mechanism are indicated), Financial Stability Report 2012, p. 92 ff. (non-transparent over-the-counter derivatives market harbors risks).
