Dam contribution
Early levy for the construction and maintenance of a dam (a barrier for preventing the passage of water) on coasts and along river and canal banks. – Before the regulation – contemporary: rectification – of most rivers, for example from 1815 of the Upper Rhine by Johann Gottfried Tulla – in the 19th century floods often destroyed entire areas, so that the bank reinforcement and thus the dam fee were of utmost importance. – See dike money, buckling money.
