Check image, check copy and check image (substitute cheque, cheque image)

Check read electronically in the course of the image-based check collection procedure (the digital reproduction of an original paper check; financial institutions and payment processing centers electronically transmit data from substitute checks for settlement through the central bank). A check image legally replaces a paper check in Germany – as it does in other countries, such as the U.S. (a substitute check maintains the status of a legal check in lieu of the original paper check). – See Truncation.
