In general, the preliminary examination of the technical and economic feasibility of a project (an investigation into a proposed plan or project to determine whether and how it can be successfully and profitably carried out). – In the case of an institution, the preliminary investigation to determine whether a new business activity – can be carried out profitably and – is unobjectionable from a regulatory point of view. – With regard to mergers and acquisitions, an expert opinion on the (antitrust) legal permissibility, risks and prospects of success of a company acquisition. – See due diligence, earn-out clause, legal opinion, takeover risks.
