Chrysopoeia (chrysopoeia and chrysopoia)
The art of transmutation of a common metal into gold (the alchemical gold-making), which was highly respected in earlier times. Of course, there is not a single known case where this was actually achieved. Nevertheless, throughout the centuries, large sums of money were spent again and again to pay corresponding artists (alchemists; alchemists = here: persons who can allegedly convert basic metals as iron into gold). In fact, however, base metals can only be converted into gold by physical means in atomic reactors at very high cost. – See Financial Alchemy, Gold Makers, Philosopher’s Stone.
