Ploughing pay (rent)

In older documents, a payment to the lord of the manor in discharge of the obligation (Fron; soccage) to plow (plough) the manorial land personally and with his own equipment and draught cattle on certain days, or to deliver grain to the lord of the manor (manorial lord). – In former times also the rent for the use of the manorial or communal owned land. – Plow means here – similarly as Hufe – a surface measure of different size. The tenant himself was also called a plowman. – See Dispensation money, Redemption, Hufengeld.
