Bargain money (bail money)

The sum paid in advance to secure contract loyalty (observance). – A deposit required when taking up a public office and usually invested at interest to prevent possible embezzlement, often also called malversation in older literature (malversation: improper or corrupt behavior in public office). – See Angeld, Douceur, Einschuss, Gewährgeld, Ingeld, Legegeld, Waarborgsgeld.
