Position, weak and weak hands

In connection with a futures contract the term means that the party does not intend to retain ownership of the commodity and prefers cash clearing. – In contracts for the purchase or sale of a commodity of fixed quantity and quality on a specified future delivery date, weak position means futures contracts held by small and financially weak speculators (when used with regard to futures positions, weak hands means positions held by small and financially weak speculators). – See absorption phase, call, option, put, commodity price risk, commodity futures contract, speculation.
