Pit (also in German; often also Parkett)

The factual or also spatial department (the trading area; area) on an exchange, for example for wheat (that part of the floor of exchange devoted to a special branch of business, as: wheat pit). – The stand (workstation; work-place) of a broker on the exchange, the trader’s stand. – See Floor.
