Health insurance firms

In Germany, health insurance firms, which are important for the financial market due to their premium income and investments, are subject to supervision by the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). The authority also examines their solvency in stress tests. – See Risk and solvency assessment, company-specific. – See BaFin Annual Report 2004, p. 159 ff (various supervisory issues) and the respective BaFin Annual Report, BaFin Statistics 2012 (primary insurance companies and pension funds), p. 45 ff (very detailed information and evidence), BaFin Annual Report 2013, p. 149 (health insurers in the low-interest environment), p. 151 (AUZ procedure uncovers risks at private health insurers), and the BaFin Statistical Report for the respective years.
