Credit guidelines

The rules applicable within a bank for granting loans. These mainly consist of written or unwritten rules, in particular with regard to – the type of loan an institution considers desirable and not desirable, – the geographical focus, and – the collateral to be provided by the borrower. – As part of the Bank Lending Survey, changes in credit guidelines are requested by the ECB and assessed accordingly. – See credit factory, credit risk, credit crunch, credit mediator, credit quality, loan maturity, lending principle, standard loan, loss-loan relationship. – See Deutsche Bundesbank’s Monthly Report of January 2009, p. 16 (importance of credit standards), Deutsche Bundesbank’s Monthly Report of February 2009, p. 31 (banking conditions in Germany 2004 to 2009), Deutsche Bundesbank’s Monthly Report of November 2011, p. 37 (banking conditions broken down since 2002) and the update usually in the respective November report.
