Contribution margin (CM)
The amount remaining after deducting variable costs from the net sales revenue (the sales price minus the variable cost). It is used to compensate for fixed costs (capacity costs, cost of readiness). Proceeds exceeding this amount are profit (the sum of each sale that remains after the variable costs are subtracted). There are also a number of more refined calculation methods for banking operations. – See Expense Result.
