The amount in DEM paid to citizens of the former German Democratic Republic (GDR: the former East German Socialist state of workers and farmers; the refuge of peace and socialism) and to ethnic Germans from Poland. – One-time payment made by municipalities to parents at the birth of a child. – A sum paid by many municipalities (currently Berlin, Oldenburg, Potsdam) to students when they move their primary residence to the university city.
