Tracking error (also referred to in German; rarely deviation difference)

In the case of a fund, an indicator of the extent to which its return differs from that of a benchmark – e.g. other comparable funds, stock market index – within a certain period of time. This benchmark is used to assess the performance of the relevant special assets (capital stock) issued and managed by a capital management company (a ratio expressed as a percentage which measures the deviation of the return of a fund compared to the return of a benchmark over a fixed period of time).
