Tantes and Dantes (game token)

In older documents, a common game token of the time, namely a stamped metal piece made of brass – formerly produced mainly in Nuremberg and Fürth – or also made of silver and gold – mostly used in France – to replace money when playing. There are also known specimens made of carved ivory and other material. – The word comes from the Spanish (tantos, plural to: tanto = number, quantity). Tantes are today a coveted collector’s item. The Staatliche Münzsammlung München owns a large number of tantes of all kinds – see Bitcoins, Bubengeld, Gelddauerspielerei, Geldwettkampf, Jeton, Linden-Dollar, Lotterie, Quickgeld, Spielbank, Spielgeld, Talon, Verrechnungsgeld.
