Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority, FINMA (Federal Financial Supervision Authority, FFSA)

The central government supervision of banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions in Switzerland; created on January 1, 2009 from the merger of the Swiss Federal Banking Commission, the Federal Office of Private Insurance and the Anti-Money Laundering Control Authority. The seat of the supervisory authority is Bern. FINMA is a public-law institution with its own legal personality. It is therefore independent of the federal administration.
