Social lending platform (also referred to in German)
Internet portals that bring together providers and consumers of loans outside the banking system; this is also referred to as collaborative finance. As far as no credit mediation by the operator itself takes place, but only a peer-to-peer lending is established, such portals are not yet subject to licensing. On May 14, 2007, the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority published a fact sheet entitled “Hinweise zur Erlaubnispflicht der Betreiber und Nutzer einer internetbasierten Kreditvermittlungsplattform nach dem KWG.” – See crowdfunding, eLolly, credit union, credit intermediation platform, peer-to-peer lending. – Cf. BaFin Annual Report 2007, p. 208 f. (corresponding providers are monitored by BaFin and can be banned within the framework of general risk prevention).
