Shitstorm (so also said in German; shit = here
Excrement, crap; not: narcotics such as especially cannabis and heroin): A term that emerged around 2009, especially in connection with the financial crisis, for a – sudden, – long-lasting, – wave of indignation about the behavior of people or institutions, spread via social networks, blogs and tweets. The characteristic feature of this is that the excitement generated in this way very quickly moves away from the actual cause and factual core. Almost every time, it leads to a general condemnation of entire sectors of the economy, especially banks and their employees (“only an unemployed banker is a good banker”; a jobless banker merely is a good banker). According to the spelling and language, the writers, who have hardly got beyond the leaving certificate of a special school, express themselves here “expertly” about the most intricate connections on the financial market and judge them. – Always striving for readers, listeners and viewers, the conventional media soon swim along on this wave. – In Germany, the word was chosen as Anglicism of the Year 2011; shitstorm is now included in German dictionaries. – See bank official, bank power, bank scolding, bank nationalization, banker, bankieren, bankist, Behavioural Finance, blog, bonus, bonus system, Citigroup bonus system, deuteroscopy, Europhobia, Finanzasophie, Finanzdümmling, Finanzgeier, Finanzsodomit, Finanzterrorist, Geldsauger, internet forums, know-nots, concern, misochrematie, offshore leaks, phantom risks, Twitter, conspiracy theories.
