Risk culture

In the language of the supervisory authorities, a sensitivity to risks that permeates all levels of an institution. All employees must be willing and able to recognize risks, assess them properly, and propose or make appropriate risk-reducing decisions. A lack of risk culture is ultimately attributed to the financial crisis that followed the subprime crisis. – See risk inventory, risk management, risk transparency. – Cf. Annual Report 2013 of BaFin, p. 76 (preparation of guidance on supervisory interaction with financial institutions on risk culture by the Supervisory Intensity and Effectiveness Group).
