Profit forecast, profit prospects
Predictions, mainly made by analysts, about possible profits from an investment in general and from securities in particular. It is undisputed that – expertise, impartiality and professional experience determine the quality of the forecast to a large extent, and – the forecasts of larger companies are more reliable. – In any case, caution is advised when unusually high profit estimates are claimed, especially in Internet forums and obscure market letters. – See daimonion, darkrooming, financial vultures, secret tip, money bloggers, rumor spreading, price manipulation. – Cf. Deutsche Bundesbank Monthly Report of July 2008, pp. 22 f. (predictive quality; references).
