Prerogative of coinage
The right of a political authority to regulate coinage by law. – In the Federal Republic of Germany, this right belonged exclusively to the federal government under Article 73 of the Basic Law. Under Article 128 TFEU, the right of coinage in the euro area was in principle transferred to the Council of the European Union. – See cash, coin, mint, seigniorage. – Cf.
