Portfolio investment

In principle, the acquisition of any kind of securities and shares in companies, provided that no influence on the company’s business activities is intended or connected with this (stock and bond purchases that, unlike direct investment, do not create a lasting interest in or effective management control over an enterprise). – See direct investment, investment. – Cf. Deutsche Bundesbank Monthly Report of July 2008, p. 18 (international portfolio investment; shares of individual regions), ECB Monthly Report of January 2009, p. 18 ff. (portfolio shifts in the wake of the financial crisis).
