Trading platform for used life insurance policies offered in Germany on the Hamburg and Hanover stock exchanges since fall 2008. This secondary market thus offers the opportunity to trade life insurance policies in accordance with the principles of a stock exchange, namely transparent, neutral and monitored. In an auction process, a large number of buyers can submit bids for the policies on offer. This forms the basis for essentially fair, market-driven and comprehensible prices. – Used life insurance policies offered outside the exchange by companies to private households, with the purchase price being retained in whole or in part. Often the company promises to invest the retained amount for the buyer of the used life insurance. This amount is to be paid out at a later date, with interest and in installments. Depending on how the contracts are structured, these transactions may be subject to licensing. – See life insurance, secondary market, secondary insurance market, viatical market. – Cf. BaFin Annual Report 2009, p. 229 (requirement to obtain permission for corresponding contracts), BaFin Annual Report 2013, p. 60 f. (ongoing issues arising from transactions).
