Paper currency alone; pure fiat standard

In a currency area, only banknotes are in circulation as means of payment, not coins. Currently, about three quarters of the world’s countries have such a currency. Italy and Greece had a pure paper currency before the introduction of the EUR. – See the one-euro note movement.
