Maximum bid limit

Maximum bid limit in euro for bids submitted by individual counterparties to the ECB in a tender operation. – The Deutsche Bundesbank conducts the bidding procedure for German institutions in the Open Market Tender Operations System (OMTOS) on behalf of the ECB. At present, around 800 banks in Germany that are electronically networked with the Deutsche Bundesbank can submit bids via OMTOS; in principle, it is possible to bid several sums at different interest rates. Whoever offers the highest interest rate will then be allocated the most money. – The ECB can set maximum bid amounts to ward off disproportionately high bids from individual banks. – See maximum bid amount, tender, interest rate tender. – Cf. ECB Monthly Bulletin, July 2000, pp. 39 ff. (procedure in detail).
