Gelder (moneyes, monies; the plural form moneys [i.e., without “e”] is considered incorrect, although it has recently become common in English-language texts as well)
Controversial term in German as a plural form of money. Linguists pointed out that money is already according to definition a plural term, the expression “Gelder” is therefore logically a misnomer (faux-pas word). In colloquial language, however, “Gelder” is deeply rooted and is also used in official documents. – In English, the plural form (in both first spellings given above) has the meaning of “cash payments or cash receipts” and is otherwise little used. – See funds.
