Financial products, hybrid (hybrid financial products)

Rarer term for derivatives. Sometimes – quite ambiguously – the term hybrid capital is also used for derivatives – see the overview in the ECB’s Monthly Report of May 2000, p. 42; BaFin’s Annual Report 2008, p. 50 (revision of the Banking Directive with regard to hybrid financial products), BaFin’s Annual Report 2009, pp. 49 f. (further revision; CEBS guidelines, catalog of characteristics), BaFin Annual Report 2010, p. 125 (the Capital Adequacy Directive, which has entered into force, defines more precisely the eligibility of hybrid capital components as regulatory own funds).
