Defined prudentially in Directive 2006/48/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of June 14, 2006, relating to the taking up and pursuit of the business of credit institutions as “noncommercial administrative bodies sponsored by central governments, regional or local authorities, or by public authorities which, in the eyes of the competent authorities, perform the same functions as regional and local authorities, or nonprofit enterprises owned by central governments and subject to a liability equivalent to an explicit guarantee, including self-managed bodies governed by public law and subject to public supervision.” – See bail-out, financial strength local authorities, parafiscus, general government.
