Credit volume (total borrowings)
Unless otherwise defined, this refers to the total of all loans granted in – an economy, – a currency area or – the world as a whole at a given point in time. – In any case, the statistical data must be based on bank balance sheets. However, since it is possible for institutions to take loans granted via true-sale securitization off the balance sheet, it is in any case very difficult to calculate the exact volume of loans (since by true-sale securitization it is possible for credit to be taken off the balance sheet, it thus disappears from official statistics based on bank balance sheets). – See loan, Group bank.
