Credit mediator

An office set up by the German government in spring 2010 for an initial period of two years, to which small and medium-sized enterprises can submit complaints about loan applications rejected by banks. Regional chambers and development banks will then mediate in order to determine how to help the rejected applicants. – The establishment of the mediation process was welcomed in some quarters, but in others it was considered entirely superfluous, especially when it became known how high the salary of the credit mediator, who is paid for out of tax revenues, and his eight employees was. – See committee mania, money burning, insolvency cases, credit squeeze merry-go-round, credit crunch, credit line, credit guidelines, credit risk. – See ECB Monthly Bulletin, May 2013, pp. 44 et seq. (detailed statistics on loans to SMEs); ECB Monthly Bulletin, July 2013, pp. 44 et seq. (financing conditions of SMEs; many overviews); ECB Monthly Bulletin, November 2013, pp. 49 et seq. (SMEs’ access to loans in particular; overviews), Deutsche Bundesbank Monthly Report of May 2014, p. 41 ff. (SMEs’ financing conditions in the euro area; overviews), ECB Monthly Report of July 2014, p. 87 ff. (Basic information on SMEs’ access to loans; overviews; references),
