Coin, counterfeit and subaerat (manipulated coin, subaerat)

Coin made of inferior metal at the core, with a plating of gold or silver on the outside. This is also referred to as a lined coin in the older literature. Such a coinage is supposed to simulate hard money made of pure precious metal. However, these are often not counterfeit coins, but adulterations on behalf of the mint lord.
