Cavalry impost

Former tax that taxpayers had to pay to support the army units fighting on horseback (cavalry). – Landowners often had to pay a significantly higher cavalry fee (also called horse money); the levy was often included in the landowner’s tax (Generalhufenschoss: a unit tax for landowners in Prussia). – See army money, quarter money.
