BRICS Development Bank (New Development Bank, NDB, BRICS Development Bank)
In March 2013 (at the 5th BRICS summit held in Durban, South Africa), a decision was made to establish a parallel institution to the International Monetary Fund with the aim of promoting economic growth in all BRICS countries that founded the institution by means of a lending policy similar to that of the IMF and to assist each other in the event of currency crises. Following similar guiding principles to those of the World Bank, the NDB is also expected to lend. In July 2014, the NDB was finally established at the BRICS countries’ summit in Fortaleza, Brazil. The NDB is headquartered in Shanghai, China.
