In general, an early circulating hollow coin made of thinly rolled metal. – In particular, since the 14th century in Germany, the thin penny or hollow penny first made of rolled silver, later of copper sheet. – This is said to be the origin of the popular German term “Blech” for money and “blechen” for pay. – See Infrangibility.
