Boardroom coup, also board-level coup d’état and boardroom coup

The unexpected overthrow of senior executives of a company in general and a bank in particular by an individual (endowed with majority of voting rights) or by a smaller group. The sudden overthrow of the management or governing body of a corporation by an individual or small group of individuals, usually from within the company, can also be initiated by the supervisory board, especially by dissatisfied representatives of the shareholders or employees or by bank representatives. In the case of ailing companies, a boardroom coup in the past has often initiated a turn for the better, and the stock of the company in question rose. – See Lemons Problem, Sleeping Money.
