Averaging provision
At the ECB, provision that allows banks to meet their reserve requirements on the basis of their average reserve holdings over the maintenance period. – The average reserve requirement helps stabilize money market interest rates by giving banks an incentive to cushion the effects of temporary liquidity fluctuations. The ECB’s minimum reserve system therefore provides for averaging. – See arbitrage, intertemporal.
