Automotive industry (automobile industry, motor industry)

Industry that has been the focus of economic policy since around 1950 due to its exceptionally high input intensity (industrial interrelation). In connection with the financial crisis that followed the subprime crisis in 2007, economic stimulus measures in many countries focused on the auto industry; in Germany, for example, a scrapping premium was introduced, i.e. a government subsidy for the purchase of new cars. Loan guarantees and financial support of all kinds by governments, including cash injections, were also used to strengthen the automotive industry worldwide. – See economic stimulus package, Opel printing. – Cf.
