Apostrophe, single quotation mark, apostrophe
Almost every day, misunderstandings arise on the international financial market because of the spelling of currency amounts (amounts of a currency). Central banks – including the German Bundesbank and the ECB – regularly place a gap between thousands and hundreds. In German banking practice, a period is often inserted, which in other geographical areas is read as places after the decimal point (decimal places). EUR 100,000 then becomes EUR 100.00. In Switzerland, the apostrophe has been common practice for a long time, i.e. 100,000 EUR. This unique notation is increasingly used by German companies as well as more and more by internationally operating banks. – See decimal point.
