agency relationship

Agency describes a delegation in which an individual or organisation is empowered to represent another and make decisions within agreed limits. The represented party may define the scope of that authority, while the representative carries out specified tasks or exercises judgment for that party. The term is used in law, economics, finance, and business to examine arrangements such as owner–manager, client–adviser, and firm–representative relationships.
