Actual pieces
Securities that are delivered to the customer in the context of a table-top transaction, i.e., not stored in a safekeeping account at the bank. Private safekeeping saves fees and shields the holder from investigations by (tax) authorities. On the other hand, however, the private safekeeper must keep track of interest dates and maturities himself, and he bears the risk of loss, for example through theft or fire.
