Acquisition announcement
The declaration by a company – not necessarily made public – that it intends to take over another company, but without actually having this intention or even having already made a takeover bid. – However, because such an announcement usually increases the price of the potential bidder’s stock, corresponding rumors – often cleverly packaged in boardroom speeches – have been spread several times with the intended effect. It proved to be legally very difficult to prove such share price manipulating machinations in order to be able to take legal or regulatory action against them. – See blitzkrieg takeover bid, stock market letters, suitors, poison pill, greenmail, stock market rumors, price fraud, price manipulation, market manipulation, Pairoff, prearranged trading, pump and dump, radar surveillance, scalping, snake trading, takeover appeal.
