The (partial) repayment of the purchase price of a good for reasons such as faults in manufacturing or dissatisfaction with the service provided. – The payment of expenses incurred in advance, such as traveling expenses to the employer or purchased medicines to the health insurance company. – The return of the amount collected by the tax office [CH: Steueramt; revenue office] in excess of the tax liability (an amount paid back by the tax office because of an overcollection). – A payment to – exporters, especially of agricultural products, who sell goods abroad at world market prices that are lower than the producer price in the domestic market, or – importers who import products from more expensive foreign countries and can only sell them on the market at the lower domestic price. – See absorption amount, export tax, import equalization tax, refund, prohibitive system, unit of account, European, cyclical.
