Provincial banker

A derogatory term in Germany for senior employees of provincial banks. – The disdain (contempt) probably derives primarily from the fact that the corresponding positions are largely dependent on the respective party’s banner. This was compounded by the mistakes made by the Landesbanken in the course of the financial crisis that followed the subprime crisis. They had negligently invested the export surpluses generated by German industry in junk securities and also conducted reckless financial transactions in the hope of a bail-out by the state. – See bank rule, golden rule, bank failures, maturity transformation risk, Hypo
