Grain equivalent

The purchasing power of a currency expressed in terms of a precise measure of a particular grain. Especially in times of strong inflation, the grain value was used as a basis for contracts. In economic history, the value of grain is often used to determine the value of money. – Grain is also often called (the) trait in older documents. – See rye bonds.
